Overview.
Objective: Provide a set of default templates to help authors structure their content into a more engaging format.
Business Goal: Improve our North Star Metric of number of activities created by authors
Problem: Authors hesitate to create courses due to the “blank canvas syndrome” and struggle to create engaging content.
Build a course from a 360Learning template
In this initial phase I explore the existing app and all of the user information available. I do my own secondary research to do a thorough analysis in and out of category.
Secondary Research
I searched the internet far and wide and found all kinds. These 3 were the most notable for this use case
Slite: Illustrative template covers
Canva: Pop up with previews
Google: Dedicated page: blank + templates
Initial Ideation
I identified the only logical point of entry on the homepage create button as this is the familiar place where authors will make content.
Ideation
Option 1: go to course creation page then choose template
likely complex navigation
Option 2: Pop up to choose template or start a blank page
extra click
Option 3: Separate the 3 actions into categories
extra steps
Align and iterate
We’ve chosen a direction but we still have the layout of the popup to consider: blank course and Scorm doesn’t fit
Let’s sort out the flow and test

A/B testing to confirm our chosen direction
Validation for UI elements and template selection flow
